Senior Exhibition Designer
Thinc, a leading international experiential design firm, is looking for a Senior Exhibition Designer to join our team of diverse and dedicated creative professionals. Our practice includes high-profile projects such as museums, zoos, aquariums, expos, and more across the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. We work in collaborative teams that integrate architecture and physical exhibits with onsite experience, digital media, and online communities.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in working as a key team member on world-class exhibition projects at varying scales with strong, culturally-based interpretive and experiential qualities. Experience in all phases of the design process, a penchant for working within collaborative team settings, and an interest in thinking and working out-of-the-box are essential.
Our practice operates in a mostly remote working environment but currently maintains an office in Lower Manhattan for hybrid collaboration. As a firm working internationally, flexibility for travel and ability to meet in person either in New York City or at client sites, when needed, is required.
- Lead creative design and form-making of one or more projects simultaneously in a remote or hybrid working environment with multidisciplinary teams
- Interact directly with client and partner teams and serve as representative for the firm when necessary, including on project interviews or presentations
- Quickly and effectively share ideas using hand sketching and digital means of clear communication
- Direct and coordinate a team of designers, as well as participate in the generation of 3D modeling in Rhino, design documentation in Revit, and high-quality photo-realistic 3D visualizations
- Coordinate efforts between physical, graphic, and media design with content development and research
- Direct and coordinate a team of multidisciplinary designers, as well as participate in the planning and production of documentation sets through all phases of design
- Lead a design team during Contract Administration, ensuring timely coordination with all aspects of project construction, and ensuring that fabrication and other related processes are fully in conformance with design intent.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience as exhibition designer or architect
- Capability for creative application of design towards the development of mixed physical-digital exhibition environments
- Demonstrable expertise using Revit and Rhino
- Demonstrable experience and expertise working in all phases of design, from concept through to construction administration
- Ability to give constructive feedback and aid in the professional development of other designers
- Strong visualization and communication skills
- Creative, energetic, empathetic and inquisitive personality with curiosity toward a wide range of subject matter
- Flexible attitude toward changing conditions of projects and capacity for nimble responsiveness
- Proactive project planning approach and experience working hand-in-hand with a project manager and responsively monitoring team performance in service of objectives
- Thoughtful problem-solving and self-directed work ethic
- Proven effectiveness working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with solid communication skills, giving and eliciting constructive criticism to/from others, and maintaining project schedules
- Proven effectiveness in all aspects of Contract Administration

- Act as designer within a multidisciplinary team on one or more projects simultaneously in a remote or hybrid working environment
- Actively contribute to creative design and form-making
- Quickly and effectively communicate iterative steps of design evolution through hand sketching and digital means
- Generate 3D modeling in Rhino, design documentation in Revit, and production of high-quality photo-realistic 3D visualizations
- Draft and produce drawing sets through all phases of design as part of a coordinated team of designers
- Ability to work with shops and effectively review and respond to the shifting conditions of contract documentation
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as exhibition designer or as designer in exhibition-related field or similar profession
- Capability for creative application of design towards the development of mixed physical-digital exhibition environments
- Demonstrable experience using Revit and Rhino
- Strong visualization skills, both by hand and using digital tools
- Creative, energetic, inquisitive personality with curiosity toward wide-ranging subject matter
- Thoughtful problem-solving and self-motivated work ethic
- Proven effectiveness working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with solid communication skills, taking direction and constructive criticism from others, and maintaining schedules
