Thinc Design Wins Prestigious Red Dot Award for Communication Design 2020

The 'Red Dot' is a prestigious award for high design quality. This sought after, world-renowned design award is only given to outstanding products. We are delighted to announce that this year the independent jury, made up of 24 international experts from all sectors of the global design industry, awarded a Red Dot to Thinc’s Empire State Building Observation Deck project.

The award was given in the competitive Communication Design discipline, for which companies and organizations from over 50 countries submitted around 7,000 entries.

The Red Dot Design Awards are among the most important design competitions in the world. In 2020, designers and companies from 60 countries entered more than 6,500 products in the competition. The international jury comprises experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for around 65 years in order to select the year’s best designs.

A Seal of Quality for Excellent Design

The Red Dot Award honors innovation, ideas and vision. For more than 60 years, it has been providing a platform for designers and companies to assess and celebrate high-quality design. The experience and expertise of the jury in the evaluation process is unparalleled – true to the motto “in search of good design and innovation”, they test each of the products entered individually and reach a joint decision on which products will receive a distinction. Each year the best products are awarded in 48 categories and judged on innovation, functionality, form, longevity and ergonomics. Only upon meeting these stringent criteria will entries be awarded a prestigious Red Dot.

Strict Adjudication Process

The adjudication process lasts several days. The competition entries are assessed individually with regard to their design and creative performance. During the evaluation, various criteria are taken into account.

• originality and creativity
• design quality and innovation
• comprehensibility and emotional significance

After intensive discussions, they make a decision on the design quality of the projects. True to the motto ‘In search of good design and innovation’, only the best designs receive an award.

The award ceremony for the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2020 will take place in Berlin, Germany. The prize-winning designers, agencies, brands and companies will receive their awards during the Red Dot Gala and be celebrated at the Designers' Night.
